Key Stage 2 (years 3,4,5 and 6)

Learning in Key Stage 2 (Y3, Y4, Y5  and Y6)

During Key Stage 2, we build on the skills the children have learned during Key Stage 1. Using the National Curriculum Framework, we teach the primary subjects of English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, Computing, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music and Physical Education. In addition to these, children are also taught Religious Education, French and Personal and Social Development.

Where possible, subjects are taught as themes under our four year programme of topics. This approach links together key areas of knowledge, understanding and skills within a relevant and purposeful context. Subjects are taught under a progressive programme of subject-specific knowledge (key facts), vocabulary, key concepts and skills .

Our curriculum promotes tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths, cultures and lifestyles and we follow the Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus for R.E. as well as 'Understanding Christianity'. We actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect.

Pupils will receive homework during this Key Stage, encouraging a good dialogue between home and school, whilst equipping children with skills to extend their learning outside the classroom. This may take the form of some maths problems, or conducting some research into a topic being covered in class. Older children in particular need to prepare for secondary school in terms of organising their own work and completing it within a given period of time.

Parents are encouraged to support their children to complete their homework independently. We encourage parents and pupils to communicate any difficulties in homework with their class teacher well in advance of the date the homework is due in.
