Curriculum - long term planning

At Salford Priors C of E Academy we aim to give every child access to a broad and balanced curriculum appropriate to their needs. Our curriculum includes a range of learning experiences which encourage the all-round development of each of our pupils. Our teaching and learning takes into account the personal, spiritual, social, physical, creative and intellectual development of each individual.

We have developed a long-term curriculum for EYFS/KS1 based on a 3-year rolling programme and for KS2 based on a 4-year rolling programme that:

  • Reflects the individual needs of all pupils by sympathetically encouraging them to develop to their full potential in all areas of the curriculum.
  • Follows the National Curriculum with its many cross-curricular links, demonstrating the interrelation of knowledge, skills and understanding in each subject.
  • Helps our pupils to develop a lively interest in and appreciation of the Arts.
  • Encourages clear logical thinking and to enable pupils to make informed, sensible choices.
  • Develops initiative and the ability to learn independently by providing children with a variety of opportunities and experiences related to problem solving, discovery, investigation and communication

We believe that each child's education is a unique experience.

Therefore, when planning, teachers ensure that they:

  • set suitable learning challenges

  • respond to pupil’s diverse learning needs

  • overcome potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.

Teaching during the morning sessions focuses on English and Maths skills. All other subjects are taught within a cross-curricular theme, although some subjects are taught separately if this is judged to be more appropriate. The afternoon sessions are taught in mixed ability classes with class teachers using a variety of organisational strategies, teaching techniques and groupings. We enhance our delivery through a range of exciting opportunities, including theme days and weeks, educational visits, and visiting speakers, artists and authors.
