Pupil Premium - what is it?

The pupil premium grant (PPG) is a Government initiative that targets extra money at pupils from vulnerable backgrounds, which research shows underachieve compared to their non-vulnerable peers. The premium is provided in order to support these pupils in reaching their potential in a range of areas. 

The Government have used pupils entitled to 'Free School Meals' (FSM) as an indicator for vulnerability, and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based on the number of pupils registered for 'Free School Meals'. This fixed amount of money can increase every year in the course of a current Government. At Salford Priors we will be using the indicator of those eligible for Free School meals to support these children to help ‘diminish' any attainment gap as well as to help all of our disadvantaged pupils to achieve their full potential.   

Provision

In order to meet the above requirements, the Senior Leadership Team and AGC will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that aim to meet the needs of all pupils.

As part of the additional provision made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, the Senior Leadership Team and AGC of the school will ensure that the needs of socially vulnerable pupils are adequately assessed and addressed through various monitoring activities including termly pupil progress meetings.

The impact of Pupil Premium will be measured by;

1) attainment and progress 

2) attendance and punctuality 

3) frequency of behaviour incidents and exclusions

4) family engagement (eg parent/staff meetings and homework facilitation)

5) happiness in school (pupil voice and/or pupil surveys)

A review of how Pupil Premium funds are used will be carried out annually.
