Oak Class
Welcome to our webpage! In Oak Class, you will find Mrs Kent, Miss Andrews and Miss Badland, along with all of our wonderful Year 1 and Year 2 children. If you have any concerns or queries, do not hesitate to get in touch with the school.
What's happening in Oak Class?
- Spellings are sent home on a Friday to learn every week. Please talk to your child about the pattern in their spelling list, the words will have one, eg, toy, boy, joy. Spelling folders need to be back in school on a Friday so the new spellings can be added after the spelling check.
- Home Learning: All children will continue to bring work home on Friday afternoon. This needs to be handed back in by Wednesday. It usually consists of short English or Maths tasks which the children should be able to complete by themselves. Please support the process of regular home learning but encourage independent work.
- Lunchtime ‘Home Learning Club’ is held on a Monday and all children are welcome to attend either to finish homework or learn spellings. If your child appears to be struggling to complete their tasks each week, or indeed, to read regularly at home, they may be invited to attend. If you think it might benefit your child to join the club, please do speak to us.
- We have PE twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays - please make sure you have your full kit in school: a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of trainers or black pumps. We will send them home at the end of each half term to be washed, or sooner if necessary. Please ensure that all PE kit is clearly labelled.
- Forest School happens every other Monday - keep an eye on Class Dojo to find out when! Please ensure your child has a pair of named wellingtons in school and, if possible, forest school kit.
Reading
Your child has two reading books and a yellow diary sent home every day. Year One children will have a ‘Little Wandle’ book which ties in with the phonics work we are focusing on the other one is a colour coded book that they have chosen themselves, they should be able to read it independently with just a little help, please enjoy sharing it with them. Year Two will also have two colour banded books. Don’t forget to record when you have read with your child in the yellow reading diary, even if it is just your initials, it helps us to know if their books need changing etc.
Phonics Screening Check
This takes place in June and for most children, when they are in Year 1. Information for parents and carers can be found here: Phonics screening check 2024: information for parents.
Book Bags
Finally, a reminder that book bags must be brought to school every day as should a clearly named water bottle, out of book bags in case of any spillages. Your children are encouraged to access drinks throughout the day. Ideally, send water in please to protect delicate teeth!
We ask that you provide your child with a healthy snack for break time, and a balanced meal in lunch boxes.
