Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Special Educational Needs and Disability

At our school, every child is valued as a unique individual. Guided by our values—rooted in love and faith, growing in hope and courage, and thriving in light and harmony—we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all pupils are supported to achieve their fullest potential, regardless of need or ability.

Inclusion for us means more than simply giving equal access; it means recognising the distinct needs of each child and providing the right support so that they can learn, grow, and flourish. Our aim is that every pupil not only makes strong progress in their learning but also feels nurtured, encouraged, and part of our school family.

How do we identify when children may need additional support?

We identify pupils who may require extra help when their attainment is significantly below age-related expectations and progress is limited, or when concerns are raised by teachers, parents or carers, external professionals, a previous school, or the child themselves.

The academy's SEND offer and SEND policies are available on our policies page here.

Involving Parents

Communication of Progress

The school recognises the importance of working in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that pupils make sustained progress. In line with the school’s values—rooted in love and faith, growing in hope and courage, and thriving in light and harmony—attainment and progress towards identified outcomes will be communicated through the annual written report, parents’ evenings, and established school reporting systems.

Where appropriate, a home–school diary may be implemented to support regular communication. Parents and carers are able to request a meeting with the class teacher, the SENDCo, or a member of the senior leadership team at any point should they wish to discuss their child’s progress or share information relevant to their education. Appointments are facilitated through the school office.

Supporting Parental Engagement in Learning

To strengthen parental engagement, the school provides access to online resources and guidance through the school website. Teachers and the SENDCo may also recommend targeted strategies or additional materials to support learning at home, particularly for pupils with specific needs.

The school organises parent workshops throughout the academic year, which are communicated via the school newsletter and website. These sessions are intended to equip parents and carers with practical knowledge and strategies to effectively support their child’s learning and development.
