Spirituality at Salford Priors
Spirituality at Salford Priors
At Salford, spirituality is at the heart of our school community. We believe that every child is on their own unique spiritual journey, shaped by moments of awe, challenge, and daily life. These experiences help to form their sense of self, soul, personality, and character.
Spiritual Capacities
We encourage children to develop spiritual capacities by learning to:
- Be guided by their beliefs and values, and stand up for them with confidence.
- Show self-awareness and empathy for the experiences of others in school and the wider community.
- Love and care for themselves, believe in their potential, and find strength and resilience in times of challenge.
- Exercise imagination and creativity, appreciate beauty, and remain open to awe and wonder.
- Be curious about mystery and open to the transcendent in all aspects of life.
- Be comfortable with stillness, silence, and moments of reflection, meditation, or prayer.
- Acknowledge mistakes, offer and accept forgiveness, and learn from experience.
- Take risks, grow from both success and failure, and approach life with openness.
- Express gratitude for the good in life, value family and friends, and show generosity towards others.
The Golden Glue Analogy
At Salford, we use the analogy of “The Golden Glue” to understand spirituality. This imagery connects with our theologically rooted vision and reflects the Japanese art of kintsugi—the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold. Just as cracks are filled with precious metal to create something more beautiful and resilient, we embrace the idea that our life experiences, both joyful and painful, shape who we are.
Life is full of:
- WOW moments – Times of awe and wonder, when we pause to appreciate the beauty and joy around us.
- OW moments – The difficult times, when challenges test our strength and resilience.
- NOW moments – The ordinary, everyday experiences that encourage us to live fully in the present, remembering that God is with us in all circumstances.
By recognising and reflecting on these moments together, we grow as individuals and as a community, embracing life’s journey with faith, hope, and love.
