Key Stage 2 - Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class

Key Stage 2 - Cherry Class

At this important stage of learning, children are encouraged to become increasingly independent, resilient, and reflective. Our dedicated staff nurture not only academic progress but also the spiritual, moral, and personal growth of every child. Through exciting lessons, creative opportunities, and meaningful reflection, pupils are guided to develop empathy, imagination, curiosity, and gratitude—spiritual capacities that help them to grow as confident learners and thoughtful members of our school community.

Our school motto, “Rooted in love and faith, Growing in hope and courage, and Thriving in light and harmony,” underpins all that we do. Staff model and instill these values daily, encouraging children to be kind, compassionate, and courageous, and to recognise the beauty in themselves and the world around them. In Key Stage 2, we celebrate every WOW, OW, and NOW moment as part of each child’s unique journey, supporting them to flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.

English

In Key Stage 2, our English curriculum is built on the Pathways to Literacy programme, which provides a strong foundation for teaching Writing, Reading Comprehension, and Poetry. Lessons are carefully planned to be varied and engaging, offering children opportunities to explore high-quality texts, develop creativity, and deepen their understanding of language. In our mixed-age class, activities are thoughtfully scaffolded to ensure that every child is challenged at the right level, with appropriate levels of cognitive demand. Above all, our English lessons are designed to be relevant, fun, and inspiring, helping pupils to foster a lifelong love of reading and writing.

Mathematics

In Key Stage 2, Mathematics is taught through the White Rose scheme of work, which provides a carefully structured approach that supports the needs of our mixed-age class. Lessons are broken down into small, digestible steps that build confidence and understanding, with regular opportunities for repetition to develop fluency and secure mastery. Children are offered scaffolds where needed to support their learning, while those ready for further challenge are given stretching tasks to extend their thinking. This balanced approach ensures that every child is both supported and inspired to achieve their full mathematical potential.

Religious Education

Religious Education in Key Stage 2 is central to nurturing our pupils’ spiritual development and sense of identity. Lessons encourage children to reflect deeply, show empathy for others, explore life’s big questions, and appreciate the awe and wonder of the world around them. Through engaging with different faiths and traditions, pupils learn to value peace, practise generosity, and develop resilience in their own spiritual journeys. Our school motto—“Rooted in love and faith, Growing in hope and courage, and Thriving in light and harmony”—shapes all that we do, helping children to grow in understanding, compassion, and respect, while preparing them to flourish as thoughtful, caring members of society.
